Washington, Feb. 15 – Iranian leaders have rushed to encourage the protesters demanding democracy in the streets of Cairo and other Arab cities – but they may soon regret their hollow support for freedom.
Addressing the Egyptian people on the 32nd anniversary of the 1979 Iranian revolution – and coincidentally, mere days after the Egyptians unseated long-time President Hosni Mubarak – Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hailed a supposed rebirth of a new Middle East as he told a crowd of thousands: “It is your right to be free, without the Zionist regime and U.S. interference.”
